Bearing in mind that we could not do this when the photos were taken and printed and the fact that the cameras in my youth that I could afford were pretty basic I am very happy with simply scanning and not adjusting - I have about 50 albums to scan! The results are fine, memories are safely preserved and space in my house is recovered.
4X6 PHOTO SCANNER AUTO FEED SOFTWARE
The software does permit rotation and editing. I chose a location in my cloud, changed the scan dpi to 600 and quickly scanned the contents of one photo album. The unit has a nice small footprint and is quiet in operation. I then installed and calibrated the printer and was scanning within 10 minutes. On loading this onto my laptop I was informed of a newer software version on line.
4X6 PHOTO SCANNER AUTO FEED DRIVERS
I could only find drivers on line so I use an old PC and copied the CD onto a USB stick.
4X6 PHOTO SCANNER AUTO FEED INSTALL
I did not have a cd drive on my laptop to install the supplied software. It was a pleasant surprise to receive a helpful email from the vendor before I received the printer ( using Amazon Prime too!). Having reviewed the options I settled on the Plustek ephoto Z300 and I am pleased that I did. There are not many options for scanners to quickly reduce the number of stored photographs and photograph albums. Reviewed in the United States on 2 July 2018 Poor scanning quality/software/customer service But considering the extremely low quality of scanned photos and the lack of customer service to help you with anything, it is certainly not worth $200 and I do not recommend it for photos. If this scanner was maybe $30 it might be worth it for documents. The photo on the right was scanned with the Plustek at "600." You can see the extreme difference in how pixelated the photo scanned by Plustek is. The photo on the left was scanned on the Epson flatbed at 600 DPI. The pictures are the same size and zoomed in the same amount. To show the difference I scanned the same old photo on both the Plustek and the Epson flatbed. Then came the scanning - you have two options to scan, "300" or "600." The software does not indicate this is DPI or what the numbers represent. Finally I looked up the software on the Plustek website, which was a different version than the CD that came with the scanner, and downloaded that and it worked on my Macbook. My husband called customer service - he spoke to a supervisor who said she had employees out or at lunch and would call us back. We both have Macbooks with IOS 10.15 which Plustek says they are compatible with but the software would not load on either computer. When we first got the scanner my husband tried to load the software from the CD that comes with it but he kept getting an error. The Plustek seemed like a good alternative to the Epson auto-feed scanner that is $600+. We have a flatbed Epson scanner that is great but takes a long time to scan photos one by one. You will get the scanning done but you may not enjoy it.Īs much as I wanted to love this scanner I am going to have to return it. Yet, despite the macOS software, I would recommend the ePhoto Z300 as a means of scanning large numbers of photos. I would not use this device for daily or regular scanning on macOS. This is regrettable as you are entirely dependent on Plustek supporting the device each time macOS is updated. You can not use this device with macOS's Image Capture. The scanner does not appear as a scanner in macOS. This is all with the latest version downloaded from the Plustek web site.
4X6 PHOTO SCANNER AUTO FEED MAC
The interface is far from Mac user friendly, crashes occasionally, requires relaunching every so many photos, and is in need of further development.
4X6 PHOTO SCANNER AUTO FEED WINDOWS
Mentions of Windows remain within the user interface. The macOS software is a bad conversion from Windows and suffers for it. Getting the scanner to work initially was fiddly enough that I considered returning the product as broken on arrival.

Where the Plustek ePhoto Z300 falls down, is the software for macOS. I was surprised that the scanner could manage photos printed on 4mm thick card – with some assistance to feed them through. Photos were not bent or harmed by passing through the scanner.

The hardware is well designed and feels well built. The scanner is undeniably capable and useable. I used this scanner to scan thousands of family photos over the course of a week.
